I am presently working on my scuba certification and tried the eLearning portion of the class without this book. I am an old fashioned learner - I need a book to read or refer back to. This book is perfect! It completely matches the eLearning class to a tee. I read the chapters/sections, take each quiz (hiding the answers) and then go on line and take the final chapter assessments. If you have any issues with the eLearning portion of scuba certification, I would highly recommend this book. This book also offers something I can refer back to even after completing my certification.
I was certified as an Open Water Diver in the 1990's. I got sick in early 2000 and haven't gone diving all this time. I'm all better now and checked with my doctor and he said I can Dive again. I bought the book and DVD to study so when I go to ST Maartin in january I can renew my certification of, if I need to, recertify. The book seems a lot more flashy than the book I remember in the '90's. It's easy to read, has a lot of highlights and clearly marks the thinks that are very important. I still have the book I got in St Maartin in the '90's (with my handwritten notes in it) and the new book highlights a lot of the places where I underlined and it has notes in a lot of places where I wrote my own notes while studying in my hotel room. It's kind of funny. The quality of the paper is better in the new book and overall I like it.
Dixie Divers sent new and sealed 2014 version and a plastic dive table and instruction book that was comprehensible unlike the lousy chapter 5 of the poorly written chapter in the book. Personally, I prefer this PADI dive table over the lousy NAUI one. It is much easier to read and leass clutter and slight large and include some 30 and 35 feet and NAUI treats anything under 40 as the same.b For tropical dives (coral areas are usually only 4 to 40 feet deep) also get the current US Navy table (the basis for all other dive tables in existence) on which covers shallower but depth go one column less on the maximum dive time to match the NAUI and PADI numbers, eg. 55 minutes at 60 feet.
Bought this book for my husband because he was thinking about taking a scuba certification course. It ended up being the same book that was necessary to take the course and I paid $35.00 less than the dive shop would have charged! Awesome.
This product does not come with the DVD, which was expected, but it was also missing the diving planner. The diving planner is also needed for the exam portion and is typically included in the manual (helps you calculate how long you can be underwater). A classmate had an extra one that I could use to study and take the exam with, but do not assume you will be so lucky if you are planning to take the exam with just this manual.If you do not need the DVD or the planner, then this product is perfect. The book was in great condition & had knowledge tests at the end of each chapter to prepare you for the open water exam.
Exactly what I needed for my PADI open water diver course. My dive shop was going to charge me a bunch for this thing! I purchased it online and saved the money for some extra dive gear. Product was new and in plastic wrap. Came with dive tables (the plastic ones).Per review rules, I can't list the name of the seller, but perhaps they will let me post that this is a great piece of Snorkel Gear.Purchased November 2015.
