This is a well informed author but this book will really aggravate you!!!!! I have tried to complete reading this book several times. Each time I finish one chapter, I have to set the book down and calm my nerves. It is so well written and I highly recommend reading this book, if you really want to know how our government is really operating. America is in for a rude awakening and this book confirms how the American people don't even have a clue as to the fullest extent of how we are being underminded.

The author makes a compelling point that over the last two centuries, and especially since WW II, a huge, largely unaccountable government bureaucracy has built up that has more influence than other branches of government.Mr. Sekulow refers to this bureaucracy as "the fourth branch" of the US government.He makes a lot of valid points. Civil servants, even politically appointed ones, serve for years and years. It is almost impossible to remove a civil servant from a position no matter how incompetent or partisan. In one notable case, the government eliminated only three positions from an organization with 1,500 government employees. Based on the laws surrounding civil servants and intervention of the local union, it involved shuffling over 1,200 of those employees to accommodate "bump and retreat" for the vested civil servants.As the author points out, the vast majority of US citizens have no idea how the government operates.One caveat, this is not to say that everyone (or even a majority of people) working for the government are bad, unqualified, or partisan people, but the point still stands that vast malfeasance is possible and cannot easily be remedied when it occurs.Mr. Sekulow advocates for sweeping reforms to our antiquated civil service system, and whatever your political bent it is hard to disagree with his well researched facts and logic.

A MUST READ!The "Administrative State", aka the fourth branch of government, is an entangled complex web of greed, corruption and unrelenting lust for power.Jay Sekulow does an outstanding job taking the complex and simplifying it so it's easy for all to understand. This book is well organized, concise and well documented with "Notes".He provides a good cross section of the unelected and unaccountable "Administrative State" by calling out the IRS, the VA, the DoJ, the EPA, the FCC and the NLRB with vivid illustrations of their willful neglect and disdain for the U.S. Constitution and for the rule of law. The consequences of such an unconstitutional branch of government become quite apparent.Fortunately Jay offers real world tangible solutions to reign in this unaccountable and unelected bureaucracy with a blueprint to resist their intrusion into our lives, to reform the entire entity and to restore our constitutional republic. He cites Article V's provision for a "convention of states" as one possible solution among others. I am a strong advocate and supporter of this measure; since his book was released, this effort has gained significant momentum with 12 States (of the requisite 34 required) now having called for such a "convention of states".As Jay states, "It's time to reintroduce the constitutional process to our federal agencies."And last but certainly not least, Jay cautions readers against despair; he encourages us to think about our individual responsibility to our ourselves, to our families, to our children and to our children's children.Excellent book! Recommend to anyone interested in learning about the "fourth branch of government" and how it is detrimental to our very existence as a constitutional republic.

In 2013, I had a major loss and was depressed. I went to see a psychiatrist and was prescribed an antidepressant. I had only been on the antidepressant for 2 days when I started to have SI (which I wasn't having any before starting). On day 3, I was given valium by my psychiatrist and that night I attempted suicide- I don't have any recollection of taking anything, which is a very scary thing. My psychiatrist kept me on the antidepressant but we switched several times bc nothing was really helping. After about a year and half, I gave up on the antidepressants. I started seeing a new psychiatrist in fall 2015 for my ADD. In December 2016 I had a bad start of depression. I could sleep 12 hrs at night and still take a 4hour nap during the day. My psychiatrist diagnosed me with the soft bipolar. He told me he suspected I had it from the time I started seeing him. He recommended this book to me and gave me other reading material. I wish other psychiatrist understood the diagnosis better. I had to relocate to a new state and my new psychiatrist wanted to add an antidepressant to the med I was already taking. She claimed she understood the diagnosis. She pushed for the antidepressant for 2 visits before I agreed to try the antidepressant. Day two of taking I started to feel very irritable and aggression building up. Day three I started having suicidal thoughts- I stopped the antidepressant immediately. Luckily I recognized the issue thanks to reading this book and my husband was able to watch me closely for a few days until the med was completely out of my system. Situations like this are why providers need to be more aware and understand the diagnosis.

This changed my life. I'm not exaggerating at all. Dr Phelps' website is the first thing that led me to consider bipolar disorder after having the diagnoses of depression, anxiety, and insomnia for seven years. Now on mood stabilizers, I've had good days for the first time in seven years. This summer I finally had a week at a time where I felt like a normal person, happy and confident and relaxed, feeling like I belong, able to participate in conversations, and so forth.I AM SO GRATEFUL I READ THIS BOOK AND WEBSITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It really changed my life. I could go on and on about it. I finally felt like someone understood MY depression. "Depression plus," he said some of his patients presented with. As soon as I read that phrase, I knew I had to read further. I'd never heard someone describe my experience so closely. I finally didn't feel like a freak anymore.Dr Phelps' conversational tone, easy-to-understand explanations, dry humor, and linking hundreds of times to others' independent research meant that this book was accessible, understandable, and trustworthy.If you've struggled with depression for more than a year, if you had postpartum depression, if your depression is coupled with anxiety or insomnia or irritability -- read this book. It may not apply to you, but it just might change your life.

I was recently diagnosed with Bipolar II Disorder after years of struggling unsuccessfully with depression and anxiety. I was a little lost, surprised and desperately needed more information and this book was a great life line for myself and my husband. The author's explanations are easy to follow and understand. Often while reading the book I'd stop and be like, wow he is describing me. I highly recommend this is you're struggling with depression and have tried multiple anti-depressants to no avail and can't figure out what's wrong. It's great for friends and family members to help understand bipolar disorder and it's spectrum and it especially helped me come to grips with not feeling bag about my diagnosis and tearing down my own stigma of what I bipolar disorder is.

Folksy and readable, yet full of useful information from research and practice (his own). My doctor recommended Dr. Phelps' website; I read the book and have since been using the website as well. His practice of using the website to extend and update the material in the book is commendable. Phelps' discussion of the bipolar spectrum, limitations of DSM diagnostic criteria, and how they differ from real-world patients' experiences was especially useful. References to literature on affective instability, pros and cons of different treatment options were personally enlightening. With a bit more editing to eliminate some redundancies, I would have given it 5 stars.It wasn't until I had received a diagnosis of bipolar II that I learned of Dr. Phelps' book. It wasn't until I read the book that I truly started to undertand the nature of my disease. I understood depression (or so I thought), but I was completely clueless about bipolar II.I would recommend this book to anyone facing a bipolar II diagnosis or anyone who has a family member with such a diagnosis. I would also recommend it to primary care physicians and practicing psychiatrists everywhere. If more of them were familiar with Dr. Phelps' work, his website, and the research he cites, perhaps fewer of us would struggle for years with the wrong diagnosis and, consequently, the wrong medications. "Reclaiming Israel's History" by David Brog, 2017. Initially, regarding this book, I thought: "What another repetitious history of Israel like so many other similar books?" Much to my surprise, and I have read dozens of books regarding Israel, but I surprisingly found that I learned much new information regarding the history of Israel since the 1930s. The main question that the author asks is: "Why is Israel a recognized State, but the Palestinians have failed to achieve Statehood?"The author brings new and fresh perspectives in looking at the legal/political issues of how a people make up a nation, and how after WWII many European and Asian countries forcibly removed German families that had lived for centuries in their countries back to Germany, and how vast numbers of Hindu-Indians & Muslim-Pakistanis moved between their countries following India's division. The author analyzes these forcible migrations in comparison with the exodus of "Palestinians" from Israel in 1948 and Jews from Arab countries thereafter. The author recounts some of the early history of the Zionist movement in the early 1900s, but surprisingly doesn't mention the Belfour Declaration nor its influence (no citation in the index). While the author briefly mentions some of the highlights of the various Israel-Arafat & Obama-Abbas "peace" negotiations, the author barely mentioned how the issue of the "right of return" of Palestinian refugees was the major stumbling block in why these negotiations eventually collapsed -- although he finally notes this issue about pages 170-172.  The author reviews the anti-Jewish riots of the 1920s in the British Mandate of Palestine, and how the British took on an anti-Zionist view during the 1930s, and curtailed Jewish immigration during WWII to appease the Arabs into not supporting the Nazi war effort.The major shortcoming of this book is that while the author noted the long fraction between the Israeli-Jews and Palestinian-Muslims, he didn't get into analyzing "why" the Muslims held such animosity and hatred towards Jews or of an independent Jewish state. To understand this one needs to read "The Complete Infidel's Guide to the Koran" by Robert Spencer.All of this leads the author to postulate, essentially: The Palestinians haven't achieved Statehood because their leaders have consistently declined to establish Statehood if that means they need to recognize a State (Israel) for the Jews."While "another book about Israel", I found this book to provide new and fresh analysis of the Jews struggle in reclaiming their homeland -- and how despite the "peace" treaties with Egypt and Jordan remain fragile, as Palestinian Authority (PA) & Hamas warlords continue their anti-Jewish media propaganda and violent "lone wolf" attacks around Jerusalem. A fine read.

The book reveals historical events of which I was unaware before, and gives an in-depth account of what actually happened, as opposed to what the pro-"Palestinian" commentators tell the public.

I consider myself very well informed on Israel's history and that of the Jews in what was Palestine. But this book opened my eyes regarding the permanent presence of Jews in that area. It is extremely well researched and written. I found the historical detail revealing and enlightening. I strongly recommend this work to everyone interested in the history of Palestine and Israel.

It’s hard not to side with the Israelis after reading this book, but the author is the first to admit that the Israelis aren’t saints either. That’s why I say “objective” analysis. Yet I one salient point emerges throughout: the Israelis have repeatedly agreed to a generous 2 state solution. The Palestinian leaders have only ever agreed to one solution: the elimination of the Israelis and all Jews.

Scholarly, intellectual and meticulously researched enough to be a textbook yet reads like a conversation with a friend. Original and interesting perspectives on the current situation in the middle east as well as the historical context that is key to understanding the ongoing battle between Israel and its Muslim & Arab neighbors.

Brog's book not only chronicles the 3400 year history of Israel in the land, but also the very recent development of the concept of an Arab Palestinian nationality. He also follows Israel's efforts to establish a peaceful coexistence and the Arab's documented inability to do so. This is a view which you will not get from the Arabs, the news media or anywhere for that matter. But one that is none the less very accurate.
