I've read quite a few of Mary Solomon, the author's books on diet and nutrition and this one is very good. It's more of a straight nutrition book rather than a set of recipes. She does point to the Mediterranean diet, the Paleo and the Gluten-Free diets as a source of recipes. I did not understand until I read this well-researched book that there were 80 known autoimmune diseases, with everything from Type One Diabetes to Transplant Rejections included in that list. Celiac Disease is in that list which a lot of Gluten-Free recipe books talk about. So instead of losing weight this book's focus is on foods to eat and foods to avoid, and of course why.
This is a full-lenght detailed guide that provides plenty of information about anti-inflammatory foods and autoimmune system diseases. As someone who suffered from unexpected attacks of uveitis(rare eye condition provoked by auto-immune system deficency), I can personally attest to the effectiviness of this diet. I cured myself utilizing the alkaline and macrobiotic diets that both can be categorized as "anti-inflammatory".You are what you eat- if you, or someone on your family suffers from autoimmune system diseases, I strongly recommend you get aquainted with the information in this book.This diet also helps you have more energy and vibrant health and acts as prevention.I will surely read it again and keep in my kindle collection for reference. As someone with health issues looking for solutions can be a hassle, always on edge and concerned whether or not something can help you is a pain. They say you are what you eat and its true. The diet this book proposes works! The healthy and delicious meals within this book makes being healthy all so easy. A definite must buy and will recommend to others.
It was good, but not great. It kept repeating some things. Did not have lists of things to eat , foods allowed, in an easily readable format, just some foods listed in paragraphs. She can use better titles for her chapters to guide us.About 5 chapters were about Gluten. It would be nice for her to talk about other things (foods) that causes inflammation than just gluten. She refers you to Chapter 13 "Where to find Recipes." You would think she would put several of her own recipes in her book. In this chapter she gives vague general ideas where to find recipes from she says, "the net, blogs and friends", but she gives no net site to view. or recommendations of cook books or links to cookbooks, nothing. She needs a chapter on her own recipes on here I believe people will like this book better if she did. She mentions there are several different meal plans. She keeps saying "meal plans" but give no meal plans of her own. She needs to do more research and create a meal plan of her own and recipes of her own, so we can take her seriously. She keeps referring to the general net and blogs over and again for "meal plans"..I don't think I will get anymore of her books, I would like to encourage her to improve, rather than dis her work, but I cant say I will buy anymore of her books.
Gluten intolerances such as what this book is about (autoimmune disease) are treatable and this book provides you with insight into that process. I found the book to be very enlightening with all the information on the various autoimmune disorders that are out there at the moment. Helpful book for anyone looking into autoimmune disease diets and treatment.

I had to settle down with tea by my side before I could finish the book.For one who is not familiar with the subject of autoimmune disease, it is going to take much more time to finish, but fear not, it is very comprehensive.
As I read through, I understood that one of the aims of the author was not just to provide so much useful information, but also to be able to properly inform the reader through effective communication.If I was reading this from a physiology text book or one of those academic books, it is going to take so long before I will be able to grab what the writer is trying to say. This book however was written comprehensively and I will say that the author did a great job on that.
