The Unofficial Guide to Fortnite gives lots of good basic information for anyone who might be new at the game and wants to get their bearings quickly in this large world. There does not seem to be an author who takes credit for all of this other than the "100% Unofficial Fortnite Essential Guide Team".If you have been playing already but want to take it a step further, then you will probably want to stop the first chapter or two which is basically setting things up and getting familiar with controls, lobby, characters and such. Along the way it will give you stats for guns as well as rarities you can get with loot boxes.Knowing the map will probably be to your best advantage early on and this book gives you a basic sense of the locations of all the areas, North and South. While later on in the book, once you have the basic understanding of building, you will find advanced tips such as ramps and walls. It's a short book, but punctuated by important tips and hints where it does not need to be a read-through. For the small price, its well worth the tips you may discover for advanced players and probably most beneficial to "noobs".
This is from my 11-year-old son who is a Fortnite fanatic:The book is really for beginning players who would like an introduction to the game. It is an overview of Fortnite that very helpful for someone who has never played the game before. It covers technical aspects including controls for all major platforms, but most of the content is geared toward how to play the Battle Royale mode. Also included are directions on how to get into a game, landing locations, weapons information, consumables, challenges, how to build and strategies for gameplay.Most of the information is true, but there are quite a few minor errors. The Pro Tips that are mentioned are not necessarily Pro, but more for a new player wanting to read tips on how to perform better. To find better ‘Pro’ tips, an intermediate player should search online videos for tips and strategy.
The kid loves this. I would consider her a medium level player. She’s won a few times, but in no ways is it consistent.This guide starts from basic - so it’s good for someone starting out. Are there people that haven’t played this game yet that are under 30? But, if you haven’t it guides you through how to get up and going without looking like a fool when you start. We’ve all been there - don’t worry you should see my building skills. Awful to say the least.The best thing about this book are the building tips, the maps, and the fact that you don’t have to read this book from start to finish - more use it as a reference guide - makes it good.It’s great for tips and tricks - but I don’t know how long it will be relevant since Fortnight does change a lot every season. This would make a good gift for one of your favorite tweens/teens.

The 100% Unofficial Fortnite Essential Guide will catch you up to speed quicker than just learning by playing (like all those first players had to do).The guide begins with which console is best and continues with comprehensive instructions on controls, movement, combat, looting, building materials, and weapons. All instructions includes copious amounts of picures making this a good guide for kids. The only negative is the maps change frequently so the ones in the books will probably not be of much use. The book is a guide on how to play Fortnite. It is written at upper elementary reading level. It has tons of pictures and smallish chunks of text. It explains the game starting from how to register an account and begin playing. There is some more complicated advice, too, but nothing earth-shattering. The resident player said the book is outdated by months if not years, since there is a new season comes out every few months and with it, new weapons, places to play, skins and much more. He said season 5 in the book, and they just released season 8. So, he was very disappointed about that.
Kids in middle school rave about this game. My two older grandsons also play this. I had to jump in and learn all about Fortnite so I ordered this for me! Once I read it, I will bequeath it to my 10-year-old grandson.As a "noob" I learned quite a bit: looting, weapons basic, strategies, map lay-out, even basic controller functions for PS and XBox. Writing is at a 7th-grade level, with lots of colorful diagrams. Paper is a thick kind, and the hardback is sturdy. There are 64 pages. A young child would have no trouble holding this book.
So, yeah, my son plays the heck out of Fortnite. I honestly don't get it, the game kinda sucks when I play it. Probably my lame skills, but I did try! I just don't get it. But my son does, and will play any opportunity he gets from me. More so, he is, from what I can see, an expert at the game. So I was not sure if he would like this book, or get anything out of it. He does, of course, LOVE it. (hence the five stars) He gets more out of the game, he says, now that he has this book. Lots of pictures!
So, my son and grandson have played the game since about day one and would play it 24/7 if not for lack of food. The two are very, very good. Grandparent here on the otherhand has watched so many games through so many iterations that my ability to communicate about their rocket fast play can't keep up.If I don't learn these basics, I'll have lost the 2 for conversation purpose. The book is for me and for me it's good.
