My four year old and 1 year old love these books more than the fairy tale/cartoon type of books and I love that they are learning when I read it to them.

Good book in terms of content. However, the quality of how the book was made could be improved.

By the time I bought this book, I had already read a lot of online resources about bash scripting, and I had already been using linux for two years. I had even read most of the A-plus certification book on Linux. Despite that, I was constantly struggling to write bash scripts that worked, this is because so much of the free online documentation on bash scripting is confusing and incomplete. Even when consulting co-workers, they too could not explain why so many things I tried to code in a bash script did not work. That's when I decided to buy this book.The "Linux Command Line and Shell Scripting Bible" cleared up a lot of problems that have been plaguing me for a long time now. I wish that I had started to learn bash scripting with this book, it could have saved me a lot of time. I would highly recommend this for anybody who will use linux.Let me list some things this book explained to me that I struggled with for years prior:- When is a subshell made, what are the implications of that, how does variable scoping come into play.- how can you create, manipulate, and pass around arrays in bash- how does the "return" statement behave in functions, how to use that in an if statement- how can you do math in bash- the differences between [ ] and Here are some other things I love about this book:- it has an excellent explanation of how you could parse a command line that follows a complicated pattern like "mycommand --longopt -a -bcf input.txt -- foo bar zop". Before I picked up this book I thought that would be too difficult to do in a bash script.- It explains how to easily create GUI interfaces for your script.- It has one of the best explanations for sed and gawk I have ever seen.Throughout the entire book, everything said is clear and easy to understand, and the authors give you ample examples to demonstrate the point. While the thickness of the book is a bit intimidating, you will find that you can read it pretty fast because a lot of those pages are full of clear examples that you can read quickly.Yet again I highly recommend it.

Great book, written in a way that I can understand. I'm starting chapter six (there are over 700 pages and 26 chapters) and the material is easy enough to comprehend. Unlike some other books on this topic, this book is current (2015) and doesn't read like it's been translated into English or written in broken English. My wife got me this book as my Christmas gift and I'm thoroughly enjoying every word! I'm VERY happy!

I have been using Linux on/off for a long time now. Favorite distro is Manjaro KDE. I bought this book to improve my bash scripting and use it as a future reference. I find the book to be easy to read. Everything is well explained and easy to follow. Decided to start reading the book from the beginning in my attempt to identify and fill in the gaps. In my opinion, this book is good for all levels. I am happy with this purchase.

Needed something to brush up on my bash. First few chapters were kind of review but I did find some new commands in there so didn't know so it was worth the read. Everything I know about Bash is self taught so this is a nice addition to my knowledge base.

Whether you're an avid user of linux command line or a beginner, this book covers a wide range of necessary topics with great explanations. A lot of book contain a lot of fluff in examples or explanations, but this guide does a great job of showing examples, how to use them, and explaining with the right amount of details and background.

I've been using linux for years but I never had any formal education with bash. Sure, I could write little scrips, but I was not a master. This book filled in a lot of the gaps and is a fantastically well put together primer. I thought they did an amazing job with flow control and sed/gawk.I would buy this before the "Linux Bible"

Great book, actually!I only have a few minor complaints where the book really doesn't give you much insight into certain key areas (as to how or why), such as: In variables, even after half the book read, I want to know, can I redirect STDOUT to a variable, rather than a file? It's not exactly clear here, and more generally speaking, some examples are fine, but others may leave you stunned, trying to let it sink in until you figure it out. I don't really mind this, because it does get your analytical mindset on par, but it could save some time by adding just a few extra pages of text with some minor help tactics.Aside from that, I still don't like the "Bible" aspect of the title, not for religious reasons where it may sound blasphematic (new word?) to some, but when you use the term "Bible" a buyer might assume this is THE ONLY text you'll need to learn all the ins and outs of Command Line Shell Scripting. Not the case.Still, this was a great choice to get introduced. I think it is well written, and the author takes initiative to show you not only WHAT NOT to do, but WHY NOT to do those things.Worth the money, definitely!

There does not seem to be an author who takes credit for all of this other than the "100% Unofficial Fortnite Essential Guide Team".If you have been playing already but want to take it a step further, then you will probably want to stop the first chapter or two which is basically setting things up and getting familiar with controls, lobby, characters and such. Along the way it will give you stats for guns as well as rarities you can get with loot boxes.Knowing the map will probably be to your best advantage early on and this book gives you a basic sense of the locations of all the areas, North and South. While later on in the book, once you have the basic understanding of building, you will find advanced tips such as ramps and walls. It's a short book, but punctuated by important tips and hints where it does not need to be a read-through. For the small price, its well worth the tips you may discover for advanced players and probably most beneficial to "noobs".

It is an overview of Fortnite that very helpful for someone who has never played the game before. It covers technical aspects including controls for all major platforms, but most of the content is geared toward how to play the Battle Royale mode. Also included are directions on how to get into a game, landing locations, weapons information, consumables, challenges, how to build and strategies for gameplay.Most of the information is true, but there are quite a few minor errors. The Pro Tips that are mentioned are not necessarily Pro, but more for a new player wanting to read tips on how to perform better. To find better ‘Pro’ tips, an intermediate player should search online videos for tips and strategy.

The kid loves this. I would consider her a medium level player. She’s won a few times, but in no ways is it consistent.This guide starts from basic - so it’s good for someone starting out. Are there people that haven’t played this game yet that are under 30? But, if you haven’t it guides you through how to get up and going without looking like a fool when you start. We’ve all been there - don’t worry you should see my building skills. Awful to say the least.The best thing about this book are the building tips, the maps, and the fact that you don’t have to read this book from start to finish - more use it as a reference guide - makes it good.It’s great for tips and tricks - but I don’t know how long it will be relevant since Fortnight does change a lot every season. This would make a good gift for one of your favorite tweens/teens.

The 100% Unofficial Fortnite Essential Guide will catch you up to speed quicker than just learning by playing (like all those first players had to do).The guide begins with which console is best and continues with comprehensive instructions on controls, movement, combat, looting, building materials, and weapons. All instructions includes copious amounts of picures making this a good guide for kids. The only negative is the maps change frequently so the ones in the books will probably not be of much use. The book is a guide on how to play Fortnite. It is written at upper elementary reading level. It has tons of pictures and smallish chunks of text. It explains the game starting from how to register an account and begin playing. There is some more complicated advice, too, but nothing earth-shattering. The resident player said the book is outdated by months if not years, since there is a new season comes out every few months and with it, new weapons, places to play, skins and much more. He said season 5 in the book, and they just released season 8. So, he was very disappointed about that.

Kids in middle school rave about this game. My two older grandsons also play this. I had to jump in and learn all about Fortnite so I ordered this for me! Once I read it, I will bequeath it to my 10-year-old grandson.As a "noob" I learned quite a bit: looting, weapons basic, strategies, map lay-out, even basic controller functions for PS and XBox. Writing is at a 7th-grade level, with lots of colorful diagrams. Paper is a thick kind, and the hardback is sturdy. There are 64 pages. A young child would have no trouble holding this book.

So, yeah, my son plays the heck out of Fortnite. I honestly don't get it, the game kinda sucks when I play it. Probably my lame skills, but I did try! I just don't get it. But my son does, and will play any opportunity he gets from me. More so, he is, from what I can see, an expert at the game. So I was not sure if he would like this book, or get anything out of it. He does, of course, LOVE it. (hence the five stars) He gets more out of the game, he says, now that he has this book. Lots of pictures!

So, my son and grandson have played the game since about day one and would play it 24/7 if not for lack of food. The two are very, very good. Grandparent here on the otherhand has watched so many games through so many iterations that my ability to communicate about their rocket fast play can't keep up.If I don't learn these basics, I'll have lost the 2 for conversation purpose. The book is for me and for me it's good.

Review:This was a great conclusion to a fantastic series. I am totally satisfied with the resolution of Elizabeth, Lina, Claire, Teddy, and Snowden's stories. The ending of Diana and Henry's stories, as well as Penelope's to some extent, left me so, so disappointed. It's been two days since I finished Splendor and I can't shake the sense of melancholy that settled on me after finishing it, all due to the bittersweet ending for Diana. It didn't make me not like the series, but I think I would have liked it even more had Diana's story ended differently.Fans of romance, historical fiction, and fans of YA in general will enjoy the Luxe series. I highly recommend it!Just One Gripe:Godbersen uses several of the same phrases multiple times in Splendor. "Bee-stung lips," "a hat of magical significance," calling Central Park "verdant," these are the main offenders that spring to mind. This is a small gripe, but it was obvious enough for me to notice.The Best Thing About This Book:The poetic justice that befalls the "bad guys." I love it!

Splendor brings Anna Godbersen's Luxe series to a close, and what a tremendous ending it is! All the loose threads are tied up, but not always so neatly; the four main young women find that life doesn't always give you what you thought you wanted, but you've got to make peace with yourself no matter what. Splendor is told in alternating chapters that focus on each of the young women and takes them through the trials that will ultimately lead them to that peace, whatever it is.The book opens with Diana Holland having traveled (alone in 1900!) to Havana in search of love Henry Schoonmaker, who has joined the army in order to escape his shrew of a wife, Penelope. While the young lovers are reunited, Penelope herself starts to realize that maybe she was too hasty in marrying Henry, and sets her eye on on a Bavarian prince who is looking lustfully back at her. Meanwhile, both Elizabeth Holland and Carolina Broad have achieved contentment: Elizabeth has married her father's business partner in order to give her unborn child a name, and Carolina's past as a maid is firmly behind her as she falls in love with the handsome Leland. Of course none of this flows smoothly, and all of the young women are subjected to tragedies of varying degrees.In this final installment, Ms. Godbersen does the remarkable: she allows her characters to achieve a sense of maturity without being preachy or giving them fairy tale endings. The deceit that all of them have practiced is dealt with, but there is no moral high ground. Instead, I felt they were all so identifiable, because let's face it: pretty young women do have faults and some conquer those faults while others do not. It's all about what you are willing to live with.Ms. Godbersen filled Splendor with fashion and romance, betrayal and reconciliation, and it could not have been a more fitting ending to this series. My one problem with the storyline applies to Diana, and it is only because of her previous infatuation that I have a hard time believing she wasn't up to the task. However, I could still see her achieving something far more exciting with her life, so even though I found her decision out of character, I can let it go, and even give kudos to Ms. Godbersen for not being pat in wrapping up my favorite storyline of the four. I would actually rate Splendor 4.5 stars, but my enjoyment of the series as a whole prompts me to round up to the full five. Truly an enjoyable ride.

It's been a tumultuous year for some of New York's most fashionable young ladies. To hide her delicate condition, Elizabeth Holland has married her father's business partner for security and protection from scandal. Her sister Diana has cut her hair and quit New York to go after her love, Henry, who was forced into an unhappy marriage with the duplicitous Penelope Hayes. Meanwhile, Carolina Broad is steadily moving towards her happily ever after...if the truth about her humble origins can stay hidden. But if there's anything that these ladies have learned, it's that life doesn't go the way you plan, and getting everything you wanted isn't the same thing as happily ever after.Like Godbersen's previous books, Splendor has glamour, drama, and intrigue, but really feels more like an extended conclusion than an actual story. Elizabeth seems to take a more passive role in the book, and compared to her previous escapades, her journey from learning the truth about her husband's death and her current marriage to when she actually takes control of her own life is a little anti-climatic. Readers who love to hate Penelope will be indignant at her behavior but will be happy to see her finally get what's coming to her, even if her fate isn't at all what they expected. Lina struggles with the truth, but readers will be pleased when she finally succumbs to it and reconciles with her sister. Her happy ending is also unexpected, but a good one. Diana continues to stand out in this book as an adventurous, smart, and fiercely independent young lady. She's truly a woman of a new era, unyielding when it comes to her ideals and strong when it comes to life's challenges. Splendor is a novel about growing up, suffering the consequences of your actions, figuring out the truth, and taking control of your life.
