This concise book may be the best book on a comprehensive coverage of retirement financial planning. Unlike most books on this topic, the authors do not just survey the problems and do superficial analysis; they try to give solutions to the extent space allows. Why then 4 stars?*Many of the recommended funds are not accessible to individual investors. They are also value tilted. While value-tilt may or may not be a good advice at this time, value funds have been lagging for ten years. It is prudent not to value-tilt until value actually starts outperforming.*A withdrawal rate is successful if there is at least $1 left during a planning horizon. What does this mean when one purchases annuity? Does it mean that asset part never gets depleted during the period? If so, success (or failure) means different things with and without annuities. Then, one cannot simply subtract one probability from the other (panel C page 158).*There are also simple mistakes the authors did not intend (A Roth conversion may make sense if you answer yes to: Do you live in a high-tax state and plan to retire in a low-tax state? p101).In sum, highly recommended but read with critical eyes.

The authors are listed as Swedroe and Grogan, but the book actually represents a compendium of the latest, best thinking from a host of contributors who have dedicated their careers to some of the specialized angles of retirement planning (including a foreword by Wade Pfau). It covers both the practical considerations as well as the emotionally charged conversations surrounding retirement. Well, I have finished reading Larry's book, and I can state with no hesitation it is the best book on the subject I have read.In the last year or so I have read three books, including Larry's, on the subject of retirement.All three books covered the financial aspects of retirement very well.The difference in Larry's book is in his coverage of the non-financial aspects of a successful retirement strategy. Areas that frankly I had never considered. Obviously no book can cover all these items in great detail, but by bringing them up, it can help the reader recognize their need to address different issues that could impact their retirement,The financial aspects of retirement are also covered very well in Larry's book. Anyone who has read his earlier books knows the subject matter will be covered extensively. Adding in the coverage of the non-financial areas puts it at the top of the heap for me.

Another hit by Cory! He has such a fun writing style, keeps the pages turning! The correlation story he tells about William Manly’s incredible story from 1849 was brilliant. I bought Manly’s book and read it. Manly reminds me very much of Ernest Shackleton, for sure cut from the same cloth. Who knows, maybe Shack was inspired by Manly...who wouldn’t be after reading his story!Cory really outdid himself this time. I’m anxiously awaiting his next book!!!

Just finished Cory Reese's new book Into the Furnace. I loved it even more than his first book, Nowhere Near First. My take away from the first book was his love of running and the running community and that shines as brightly in Into the Furnace. What set this book apart for me was it's grounding in the history of Death Valley and the early explorers and survivors. And above all the call to stubbornness!! I've been called stubborn my whole life - and not always in a complimentary way. But in this book stubbornness is celebrated!

Absolutely loved this history and personal recounting of Badwater. Having the story told by someone who’s in there to finish, not podium, was great. So many stories are awe inspiring, but in a way that doesn’t even seem approachable. This story feels like it’s told by someone I’d share a drink with as we marvel over the super human feats of the pros.

I enjoyed Cory’s first book because I love race reports and his are well written. As an ultra runner (much less ultra than Cory) and a wannabe writer, I could see myself writing similar reports. Into The Furnace is a whole new level. The weaving of the history with his story of running and pacing Edd (who I have also seen at several races) is captivating and inspiring. I am inspired to write more, maybe no to run more.

For anyone interested in the physical and emotional journey into the unknown, I highly recommend this book. I especially appreciated the history provided of the fathers of the Badwater. Cory"s writing style is humble, engaging and captivating all at the same time. As a recreational runner (non-ultra runner), it amazes me how someone can find the courage to push the envelope of endurance. Its inspiring. I anxiously wait for his next book,

I really enjoy Cory Reese. He's funny and down the earth and relatable. Even though I will never (but really never) run this race, I loved reading about his journey. About the teams of people who undergo a lot of rough treatment to do a thing that sounds supremely unpleasant. I also loved the history he added. Definitely worth the read.

Cory does a great job of making you feel like you're there in the adventure with him. Loved this book and loved his last one, too~

Cory does an amazing job of telling the story of the Badwater 135, it’s founders and history, as well as the history of the region It’s an easy, funny delightful read with a very personal and heart warming ending. Bravo!

I have not finished this book, but wanted to express my wholehearted and joyful support for his book that I have been waiting for. This is the book that articulates the fullness of the Christ Mystery as expressed in John's Prologue in the Gospel like no other. I am a 70 year old Catholic Christian and lifetime contemplative practitioner with experience in Soto Zen Buddhist practice, for many years now a decades long practitioner of the Prayer of the Heart practice from Orthodox Christianity and the desert tradition. What was life-changing for me was the inner experience of the Universal Christ at the center of my own heart and the heart's of all beings. To discover, incarnate, and live that experience of Oneness is the spiritual journey and the road to peace between all peoples and religions. It is the healing balm our world needs, especially now. I heartily recommend this book which is firmly grounded in the Christian contemplative tradition of practice and experience. I will update my review when I have finished it.

What a pleasure it is to feast on such an amazingly simple, yet profound clarification of who we are in Christ and what we must now do, starting with this Lent season. The only thing the Lord requires for me to give up; my attachment to all lesser truth perhaps rolled up in the traditions of men. Thanks Richard!!

Richard is so careful to ground this teaching in both Scripture and the historical, orthodox teachings of the Church. This is dense reading - not something to dig into while doing other things or to only half-focus on. Lots of thought-provoking ideas about the nuanced difference between Jesus and Christ. While I didn't get on board with all of the ideas here, there were nuggets that I enjoyed and will spend time thinking about and digging into Scripture about.

I'll be honest. The title made me wonder. "Universal Christ" smacks of an idea that becomes so broad as to be meaningless. In spite of that initial concern, this book was transformative. It is about holding two ideas together in dynamic tension. Christ as universal and Jesus as particular. It also draws together both thought and practice. Learning to Christ in new ways today has helped me rediscover Jesus of Nazareth.One of the other unexpected joys of this book was the new light it shed on the writings of Paul. Paul's constant use of the term "in Christ" had never stood out to me before as I always thought it entirely synonymous with Jesus. Discovering the meaning and historical roots of "the Christ" helped me see how radical of a statement it was for Paul to say "it is no longer I who live but Christ who lives in me," or, "Christ is all and is in all."If you've stepped away from Christianity, this book is worth a read. You might find something to come back to.If you are a Christian, it is an invitation to a deeper understanding of faith.But you don't need to be a Christian or even consider yourself a person of faith to find the history, ideas and personal insight fascinating and transformative.

I feel like I have been waiting for this book for so long. It provides a well researched case — offered at the same time through the healing vision of a great spiritual teacher — that Christianity can be a religion and path that draws us into a much bigger, more expansive understanding of the divine mystery at the heart of all reality and within each of our own lives than what most of us inherited (at least this cradle Catholic!). It is filled with gems of both theological and practical wisdom for any spiritual seeker. The second half was where it really seems to take off.I deeply hope the message catches on, because there is so much here that can help provide a way out of the destructive divisions and groupthink that plagues our civic life today. I am so grateful to Richard for writing this and will be sharing it with many others!!

This book is completely inferior to any training guide in plyometrics, weight training, agility, etc.I agree with the other comments, this book is more of a pamphlet, written decades ago.The training guides are simple weight training pictures - and the routine has no bearing for volleyball specific athletes.Do not order this book, it may be been effective 30 years ago, but with advancements in plyometrics and weight training studies, is now an inferior product.I am receiving .98 cents back for my return, but at this point it is a moral issue because this book was not helpful.

This is basically a pamphlet and not a book. It looks like it was written in the 1960s and was not helpful at all

I was under the impression this book was strickly a "volleyball weight training" guide, which it is not. I did however enjoy the weight training sections that were quite generic in nature but informative none the less. If you are looking for a generic overview of weight training for sports, this is your book. If you want an intense guide into volleyball specific weight training, look into another series.

This weight training guide is full of great drills for volleyball players. Increase your jumping and endurance, and keep training with these programs in the off-season.

Born in Ankara, Turkey, Emre Arolat comes from a long family tradition of architects. Since the beginning of his architectural career, Emre Arolat has created an extraordinary body of work combining intellectual and artistic sensitivity and designing buildings large and small, tempered by the tradition and culture from which they spring. The book is good, but could be fantastic. The topics are all there, from working with a raw fleece to knitting with your self-spun yarn and wheel maintenance. Unfortunately, the breadth of topics are only covered superficially, as the book is just over 100 pages. I wish the author had chosen fewer topics, or made a thicker book. What is there is, however, excellent! Great pictures, good descriptions, and I learned a lot. Even though there is room for improvement, it is one of the best books on the market.

This was the first book I bought when I decided that I wanted to learn how to spin. The author covers everything you'll need to know about spinning, from how to process the fiber for spinning to how to spin on either a spindle or a wheel to setting the twist so you can use the yarn you've made.There was a lot of useful information and I found it useful to know that you should get to know your wheel before starting to spin with it. Good information all in one place.

I bought this book to help me get started spinning and I found it to be very helpful. It has all the information you need to learn to spin your own yarn, whether on a spindle or a spinning wheel. I am self teaching and while I would prefer to take a class, this book was a helpful and economical alternative. I was particularly happy about the Appendix with information on prepping fleece (both washing and the various methods of readying the washed fleece), since I'd been having trouble figuring out what I needed to do. No information on dyeing, but that's understandable because that takes a whole other book.However, one important correction should be made. On page 74, when describing how to measure yards per pound, the author states that you should weigh your yarn in ounces, then multiply by 16 to get to pounds. You should be dividing by 16 to convert to pounds! I would think it would be pretty obvious that if you have 32 ounces you have 2 pounds, not 512, but I thought that should be pointed out.

I am a very new spinner, both with spindle and wheel. This book gives me clear instructions on everything from choosing fiber, to drafting, plying and the anatomy of my wheel. The trouble shooting guides were immensely helpful when I just couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. I expect this book will be my "go to" guide for many years to come. If you are looking for a good beginner guide and reference, I highly recommend this book.

I bought this book when I knew absolutely nothing about spinning, but I owned a wheel which is a serious investment.This book was so helpful with full explanations that weren't too technical, solutions to common problems and lots of pictures. Maggie has a way of laying the foundation so there's still room for you to develop your own style.If I were stranded on a deserted island with mountains of fiber and my spinning wheel I'd want this book with me.

This is such a great book! If you get one spinning book, this is it. It covers everything, and has great step by step pictures. I haven't started spinning yet...but my new wheel is sitting here. I bought a Lendrum complete, and am thrilled the book features hands on examples using this wheel.I'm sure I'll be off to a good start with it....the other greatest source for learning is Rexenne from youtube ;)
